Happy Day!

I just love making something that is SO me! Something I want to make. Just for the fun and joy of sewing. Nothing makes me happier.

For this current joy, I have to thank my niece Emma. In the midst of sending a care package home, I realized that I had two things for Hailey and nothing to send Em's.
That JUST would NOT do.

So I promptly made her a nightgown, like the one I made Hay- yee (coming soon to the blog) and then called to see what other item she wanted.

You can't imagine my surprise when she asked for a rainbow dress. Woo Hoo! That is right up my alley.

Emma and I see eye to eye on practically everything. She is sassy but sweet, loves cheerleading, loves cats, loves food, is headstrong, adorable, out going, talkative, truthful, happy go lucky... just so much like me. We laugh that she should be mine... and I would take her in a heartbeat. For real.

I used the recycled halter dress by lil blue boo (have I mentioned I Love this pattern?) and cut up this old, but very loved, very soft, very sentimental old work shirt of mine. I was a few pounds thinner when I worked for Gym Kids (now Win Kids) and loved every minute of it.

Some yellow ribbing at the top, some old AR State t-shirt fabric of Jerry's for the straps, and this adorable rainbow applique from Lynnie Pinnie and we were in business. Hello Rainbow Brite look a like and (I must say) a fab looking dress was born in a few hours. One of my favorites of all time!

And of course, the sweet thing had to have matching bows. She is so cute in bows. Check here and here for proof.

I can't wait to get pictures of Emma in her new dress. Hopefully it won't be so short on her.

and if you like, here are some more shots of Boo's modeling for me.

Emma was very specific in regards to this request. I told her I had fabric with Carebears, Strawberry Shortcake, Hello Kitty, and Dora all with rainbows.
'No, thank you' she says, 'just a rainbow dress.'
I hope it meets her expectations. It exceeded mine. I just love when that happens. :)

So what do you think of my version of a 'rainbow dress' for Miss Emma? Of course, Ella want's one now too... and I'm thinking I might have to have a version for me in a nightgown or something. hmmmmm....
