1912 Inspiration Dress

or... the Olden Golden dress as Ella refers to it...

I am just LOVING this challenge.
This time I didn't go as literal with my inspiration piece. Remember it??? It's from the Good Housekeeping magazine covers- March 1912, to be exact, and see it only costs 15 cents.

I was immediately drawn to the colors or the dress and the lace on the collar. So that's what we went with. Ella just liked the gentleman giving the girl a ring... but no luck there.

We also made another headpiece inspired by this photo in the upper left hand corner.

For this dress, I did not use any pattern at all. I just tore a full width of the satin in the length I wanted for the skirts, tore the back one in half to accomadate the zipper, cut a 5 inch length of the teal satin for the sash, small rectangles for the straps and a fussy cut front, since I couldn't find ANY patterns in my stash with a v neck bodice. Ugh!

I got the fabrics, lace and awesome feather at Hobby Lobby for less than 15 bucks. woooo hoooo

Okay... here's about a million pictures of it... because Ella was having a good modeling day.

and I really like these two, too. She was doing an 'olden' dance.

so... what's on the list for today?
These. Yummm... I can just smell the house already and feel myself getting fatter. eh. Oh well.....
Happy weekend everyone!

I admire your work more and more. This dress is darling and I can tell that Ella is loving it. I have a question for you, where do you buy your embroidery thread, the stuff is so expensive where I live and was wondering if there was a web site or something. Keep up the good work, you rock
