Clara Nightgown and Little Frosty the Snowman

Okay... remember when I told you that the girls school was having a spirit day each Friday?
well... probably not... but they did.

First was the Whoville Day at school and I made a Grinch and a Cindy Lou Who costume.
Lucy won that costume contest. Ella won this one.

It was Christmas Storybook Day~ a day to dress up as your favorite Christmas book character.
Ella chose Clara from the Nutcracker and Lucy chose Frosty the Snowman.

I loooove both their costumes! Lucy's is a redo from last year, so I'll tell you about Ella's.



For the Clara nightgown I used Ellie Inspired's All Tucked in Gown {scroll down on that link} for most of it, but changed the bodice to her Nonie's girl slim fit bodice! {Did you know Laura has slim, average, and plus size options on that pattern? Awesome!!!}

This is the first time, really, since I made the girl's baptism gowns years ago that I have done any kind of lace work, so I really had fun with it. I knew I wanted it to be red and white, so I just bought some of those cheap laces and a couple rolls of that 49 cent satin ribbon. You can make gowns like this inexpensive if you shop those tiny rolls of trim. You only need s small bit. I also made the entire gown out of $1.99 a yard white broadcloth, so I made this gown for a steal!


I have to say in better inspection of these photos, I didn't really get any good fashion shots. She was way too excited about her Nutcracker and I didn't think to make her sit it down. grrrr


But isn't she just a doll in her sweet Christmas gown and big, red bow in her hair?



I was so mad. I sponge rolled her hair for the spirit day and it lasted about 3 minutes before all the curls fell out. I wish I would have thought to get a picture of the back when it looked so pretty!
This is the best one I could get.



 I did manage to remember to take a picture of the tucks, ruffle, and lace beading which I wove this satin ribbon thru. I love it, sooooooo much!


 Little details like that make such a difference.
I HATED ironing and sewing all those tucks, but I LOVE the way they turned out.


Actually, I love the way the whole thing turned out... and so does Ella... and she really loved winning that costume contest. ha!

And look at Lucy... isn't she a sweet little snowman?
She was LOVING that corncob pipe I found at Hobby Lobby!
